Finding out your first unborn child has a very serious heart defect is quite a numbing experience. When we were told our baby had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, after a level II ultrasound and were told our options of surgeries, heart transplant or compassionate care, it went without saying that we would do whatever it took to save our baby. After having more ultrasounds and speaking with the pediatric cardiologist, we were referred to Nemours Cardiac Center and Dr.William Norwood. After consulting with Dr.Norwood and hearing the strength, confidence and compassion in his voice about the 3 stage surgeries ,we knew that was what we wanted for our baby. All arrangements were made and the pregnancy was closely monitored.

On Friday the 13th of November,1998, God blessed us with the birth of our precious daughter, Kacy. She was 19 and 1/2inches long, weighed 6lbs10ozs, with lots of brown hair and big beautiful blue eyes. We got to hold her for what felt like a very short while then she was wisked away to be put on prosteglandin and prepped for transport to the Nemours Cardiac Center in Delaware. Daddy left so he could go await her arrival at the children's hospital. Mommy got a little more time with Kacy and then the transport team left with our very delicate daughter to begin her life's journey.
