Since Kacy was born on a Friday, they stabilized her in CICU over the weekend and she was scheduled for surgery first thing Monday morning. It was so hard not being able to hold her with all the wires and IV's and they had her upper body under a tent to control the amount of oxygen she was getting. We touched and kissed Kacy's feet and legs and sometimes we wiggled our hands under the tent to hold her hand and let her know we were there for her.

Monday morning came and Kacy underwent the Norwood Procedure which took 2 and 1/2 hours. When we were finally able to see her she looked much better then we had prepared ourselves for but it was still so hard knowing what she had gone thru and not being able to help her discomfort. Her recovery went very well and we were home 7 days after her surgery. Let me say here that the Nemours Cardiac Center and all the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff is much of the reason we were able to take our miraculous little bundle of joy home, to begin our lives as a family.

Kacy did wonderful the next 6 months prior to her hemi-fontan. She was on 2 medicines, digoxin and lasix. Her weight gain was slow, but she was eating and sleeping well and progressing normally. Our employers allowed us to split our shifts so we were able to keep Kacy out of daycare, where we could look for any changes or problems and spend individual quality time getting to know our daughter.
